huiwen shi 5/15/2021 4:50 AMFor years I have been unconsciously using plastic bags from grocery stores. As I learned that how hard the recycling of plastic could be, and as I realized how much plastic I have consumed during my previous years, I decided to not use plastic bags anymore and stick to cloth bags or paper bags which could be reused or recycled easily. Actually many grocery stores are actually not providing plastic bags at all right now: Whole Foods, trader Joe... Some grocery stores had make statements on their plastic bags that these plastic bags could be reused many times so just keeping using them. From my observation in the grocery stores, almost half of the people in the line said that they don't need plastic bags, and even plastic bags are in most grocery stores not complimentary but costs 0.1 dollar each, many are still using multiple plastic bags. The bad part is that I as a consumer wasn't really eco during my past life, and I soon purchased a cloth bag which could be used to carry not only normal goods but also frozen foods, and I have used it for 3 weeks from the beginning. I felt very good about it right now because I'm not using plastic bags anymore( I hope so in the future). I think that as long as some grocery stores are still providing plastic bags, people would use it. So the best solution from the grocery stores part is to totally stop providing plastic bags and replace them with paper bags. It doesn't have to be free so that people will know we'd better bring our own bags.
