World Clean Up Day - Sept 18
World Cleanup Day 2021 - are you ready to join in? It's so simple (just 3 steps) and together we can make a huge impact on our environment...here's how 1) Rally some friends, family, colleagues living nearby and help together as a team in person or virtually to cleanup our communities, local streets, rivers, lakes & parks (rubbish is to be found everywhere!). Why not even engage with the local schools & Kindergarten and get the children involved too. 2) Choose the day you wish to run your team activity (our suggestion is Friday 17th Sep) and create your own shift under this activity to log your VTO hrs! 3) Share photos of you & your teams in action, in one or both of the Earthforce Slack channels (add #worldcleanupday2021): #eq-earthforce-germany #eq-earthforce-global Remember to always adhere to local Covid safety regulations!

Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Farm Irrigation Efficiency

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Mulch the Base of Trees and PlantsName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Shally Stanley 9/27/2021 8:38 AMBecause we have well water, we are very thoughtful about what we use. Detergents, fertilizers and pesticides, type of mulch, water treatment, etc.
Globally we are mindful of water pollution of all types. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Upgrade My WindowsHow does improving your home's (or office's) energy efficiency help you better live out your values?
Shally Stanley 9/23/2021 2:30 PMPractically, our new energy efficient windows help us to reduce drafts and allows our heating/cooling to work less.
They also look pretty cool! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Shally Stanley 9/21/2021 10:42 AMTrees provide many years of peace and tranquility along with being amazing natural carbon sinks. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these (or other) advantages inspire you the most?
Shally Stanley 9/21/2021 10:32 AMI grow and then preserve a number of vegetables from my garden from the spring-fall. I will look to source produce from the farmer's market in the winter as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Zero-waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
Shally Stanley 9/21/2021 10:30 AMAs a gardener, we use all aspects on vegetables. We often eat the greens of root vegetables like beets and radishes.
Any part of a vegetable that we don't eat, we feed to our chickens so very little food goes into our compost pile. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Tend A GardenHave you ever had a significant experience in nature that altered your perspective or focus? If so, please describe it.
Shally Stanley 9/21/2021 10:27 AMhiking always reminds me of how different plants/insects coexist with one another in highly complimentary ways to for am eco-system. They need each other to thrive.
