REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Advocate for Wetland ProtectionWhy is it important to protect wetlands?
Manning Stewart 12/10/2020 8:34 AMWetlands are a very valuable ecosystem. They are home to many species of animals as well as a great protector for erosion along the coast. They also absorb most off the flooding along the coast keeping the least amount of damage from happening. It also helps filter our water! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Manning Stewart 12/08/2020 9:37 AMI had not heard of the term silvopasture before this. I think that the bets benefits of it are that it allows the animals and farmers to adjust to harsher weather conditions over time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go for a Daily WalkWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Manning Stewart 12/08/2020 9:18 AMI have noticed a little bit of snow and the beautiful mountains topped with white. I have enjoyed looking at the environment and the nature that surrounds me. If there where less buildings and less invasive vines on trees it would make it so much more pretty. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Explore Other Electricity SolutionsWhat is the most exciting solution you explored? Why is it exciting to you?
Manning Stewart 12/08/2020 9:10 AMThe one that I was most excited was learning more about cooking with bio gas but there was not as much on it. I found it interesting that cement is a large contributor to climate change. Although do we really need as much cement that we use. I think that we could use lass cement and more wood, brick and rock. That is why the cement was exciting to me is cause I never knew and it was interesting. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Manning Stewart 12/06/2020 7:00 PMMy vision of a sustainable community is a community with low emissions and overall efficiency. In order to make this come to life there needs to be things such as solar panels, wind males, and any natural energy producer present. There needs to be no coal plants that cause major pollution. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Learn about the Need for Family PlanningWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?
Manning Stewart 12/04/2020 2:15 PMFamily planning plays a large role in having a successful and healthy family. In some places families just need the money in order to buy things to help prevent pregnancy and in other places there just needs to be more and better communication throughout the family. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Learn about Temperate ForestsAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Manning Stewart 12/03/2020 7:13 PMI need to stop buying products from companies that may have an impact on the temperate forests around the globe. Everything that has to be done in order to make a bigger impact. If everyone in the world did one simple task every day it could make a huge difference in saving the forest and our planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Research PeatlandsMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Manning Stewart 12/03/2020 3:32 PMDo not buy products that contain palm oil. Do not feed into agricultural businesses that are destroying peat bogs so they can build what they want. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Research Barriers to Participation and RepresentationWhat are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?
Manning Stewart 12/03/2020 3:06 PMAt school girls are often expected to act like everyone else and be normal, so a lot do. Girls and women need to express themselves and show who and what they really want to be. Boys and men need to provide a level of comfort. The main key that is holding a lot of women back in my community is embarrassment due to the judgement of others. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Manning Stewart 12/03/2020 11:50 AMPlastic bags at stores can be replaced with your own bag that is reusable.
