Land Sinks Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Sierra Stock's avatar
    Sierra Stock 12/08/2020 9:19 AM
I have never heard of the term Silvopasture before. After learning more about it i think that the biggest advantage is that you don’t have to cut down a bunch of trees to raise cattle. They can live in harmony which can improve their lives and the farmers can gain more income because of it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Sierra Stock's avatar
    Sierra Stock 12/07/2020 9:55 AM
Refrigerants can cause the Ozone Layer to be depleted of Ozone. HCFCs are really effective greenhouse gases. Supermarkets have lots of refrigerators and therefore more of this harmful chemical.

What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Sierra Stock's avatar
    Sierra Stock 12/04/2020 8:37 AM
My vision of a sustainable community is a community that creates very few fossil fuels, relays on the enviorment, and acknowlages the enviormental, social and economic issues and addresses them. People would need to change almost evey aspect of their lives into benefiting the enviorment and your body.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Learn about the Need for Family Planning
What did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?

    Sierra Stock's avatar
    Sierra Stock 12/03/2020 12:10 PM
We need family planning so there are less unwanted pregnancies and abortions in teens and young adults. Family planning will also help the worlds poverty issues. People all over the world in all conditions ( especially poverty areas) need family planning.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Sierra Stock's avatar
    Sierra Stock 12/03/2020 5:55 AM
The more knowledge I acquire about the impact we have on nature and the environment the more I think about what I can do to help. A lot of things that I do in my daily life don't seem harmful to the environment but they are. By learning about how my actions affect the planet I can try and fix what i am doing wrong. The part for me that feels overwhelming is that if we don’t do something now then future generations won’t be living on the same beautiful planet because we would have ruined it. I am afraid that Earth will become like Wall-E. Hopeful: That more and more people are learning about how our actions affect 6he world and there might be change coming.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Research Peatlands
Much of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?

    Sierra Stock's avatar
    Sierra Stock 12/01/2020 11:31 AM
Well because, peat lands are being destroyed for the growing of palm trees and other foods if i don’t eat palm oil then I can reduce my chances at killing the peatlands. Even my actions from far away can help protect peatlands.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health and Education Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Sierra Stock's avatar
    Sierra Stock 12/01/2020 6:09 AM
Some barriers that exstit in my community is equal pay. Women are not paid as much as men for the same amount of work. Therefore women have to work more for the same amount of money.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Sierra Stock's avatar
    Sierra Stock 11/24/2020 7:24 AM
My diet is currently impacting deforestation because, I eat meat which takes a lot of farm land to produce the feed the anmials eat. I probably don't pay enough attention to the labels of my foods to know if there is palm oil in it. I can decrease my negative impact by eating less meat and reading my labels properly before buying food that is bad for the enviorment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
How does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?

    Sierra Stock's avatar
    Sierra Stock 11/23/2020 10:10 AM
It can tell me when to throw away food and when not to throw away food. Hopefuly this will lead to less food waste in my houehold.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Sierra Stock's avatar
    Sierra Stock 11/20/2020 11:01 AM
Microturbines can be places on large/tall building like hotels. This would allow for maxium wind coverage and speed for the wind turbines.
