ANDREW TRAN 6/08/2023 11:09 AMFor lunch, I was able to control my portions so that I don't overeat and leave a lot food waste. I normally don't have too much food waste, but any waste is pretty bad so I tried to cut down. It helped me not feel as bloated as I usually do after I eat and helps reduce my cost for groceries since I don't buy as much.-
Joshua Rhee 6/08/2023 10:49 PMIt's pretty great how seemingly small choices in our diet can have large effects on how we we feel. This includes the amount of food we waste or our general feeling of health immediately following a meal. I'm glad you found success striking that balance today, Andrew!

ANDREW TRAN 6/08/2023 8:36 AMThis morning, I went for a walk to practice mindfulness and felt that it was really nice. I don't really go on morning walks because I like my sleep, but it was peaceful to just walk around and taking in my surroundings. I think it is a good practice to apply to daily life, especially when things get overwhelming.-
GARRETT HAUN 6/08/2023 8:57 AMHey Andrew that is so great to hear. I have been trying to do the same on my walks. Wasnt it so refreshing to just get off the electronics for a bit and enjoy nature? I found it so healthy not only for the muscles but for the mind. I think its great you took an option that was not only healthy for you, but was better for our air aswell!

ANDREW TRAN 6/07/2023 11:54 PMToday I started growing new green onions with the root of the old one that I had from last week. I didn't start doing this until today and felt that it was pretty cool to have something I can watch grow and then eat after. While it is difficult to grow some vegetables, there are some that you can grow in your home in a small pot or cup and reduce some trips to the market that would have been just to get that certain vegetable.-
Madison Prince 6/08/2023 7:36 AMThat's so cool, I started doing the same thing! It is really cool to watch, the sprouts are so long and I feel like I'm doing something to benefit the world in a small way. I want to see what else I can grow on my own in my tiny apartment. Great job, keep going!

ANDREW TRAN 6/05/2023 5:25 PMOver the weekend, I was doing my laundry and decided to air dry my clothes instead of using the dryer. Not only is this more energy efficient, it is also better for my clothes so that they don't shrink. In the past, I hadn't thought about air drying my clothes since it took much longer as well as the lack of space to air dry. However, as long as I start air drying earlier, the time becomes less of an issue. Furthermore, I also bought an air drying rack that I can leave on my balcony so that it does not take up too much space in my room.-
Jaclyn Schwartz 6/06/2023 1:11 PMThis is a great idea! I hang dry a lot of my clothes that contain elastic so help them last longer. I had not thought of doing this for my other clothes. It is very convenient as I am moving out soon into a new apartment complex, this can help save money. The dryer at my current place is extremely frustrating as it often does not work and makes the whole floor very steamy and warm. This small action can conserve energy while also saving some money. I will start hang drying most of clothes, specially as summer is coming along with the warmer temperatures. -
Andreea Soricut 6/05/2023 10:14 PMHi Andrew! This is something relatively simple to do and it saves a lot of energy. I air dry my clothes that would otherwise shrink if put in the dryer, but air drying all of my clothes would help to save even more energy. I hadn't thought about doing this before, but I will definitely give it a try. -
Miranda Chang 6/05/2023 9:54 PMHi Andrew, I have dried my clothes via air drying before, but I haven't been able to commit to it because my clothes would end up still being damp. I think the key here is to take advantage of the natural sunlight, which is essentially a free source of energy/heat. Saving money! With summer coming up, I hope I will be able to dry my clothes with this method since it will be (hopefully) hot enough.

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Explore Other Electricity SolutionsWhat is the most exciting solution you explored? Why is it exciting to you?
ANDREW TRAN 5/02/2023 6:15 AMOne of the most exciting solutions that I've explored was the floating city of solar in many cities around the world, but specifically Singapore. It was really interesting to see how they're adapting to renewable energy. Since they do not have as much open land to place acres of solar panels, they use open water. It was also interesting to see how they juggled maintaining local ecosystems of water while maximizing the amount of solar panels. They reported that these "floating cities" have the capability to power whole cities when implemented widely. -
ANDREW TRAN 5/02/2023 6:06 AMYesterday I went to get some groceries, but I decided to walk to Trader Joes instead of driving. I usually drive since I don't like walking and I feel like I'd rather just get it over with faster. However, walking only takes around 30-45 minutes longer and helps to get my steps in for the day. Also, it helps with portioning because since I have to carry everything, I think more carefully about what I should buy and not buy too many things.-
Chloe Shamtob 5/02/2023 10:20 PMHi Andrew! I think this is great! I did the same thing the other day. It is a great exercise and it helps me be cautious about what I buy.

ANDREW TRAN 4/30/2023 11:17 AMRecently I have been putting more effort into sorting recyclables with my roommates since we have a lot of aluminum and plastics. We spent around half an hour just going through our trash can and took it to a recycling facility. Ideally, it would be best to use reusable things such as hydroflasks instead of buying packs of water bottles, but in the case that there are recyclables, it doesn’t take too much time to go through trash and sort it. -
ANDREW TRAN 4/28/2023 8:13 AMI was recently in New Orleans for a research conference and it was very costly to get around using Ubers. Instead, I opted to walk since mostly everything was in a twenty minute radius. I think walking is far superior since it allows me to take in different parts of the city and see things that would be overlooked when ubering to locations. One downside would be walking at night, since it was not particularly as safe as other cities.
