JIMMY TRAN 2/14/2023 3:41 PMThis year I started meal prepping for the first time in my life. This is a photo of my Sanrio pompompurin glass container. I use it to bring my healthy lunches that I've prepped. As opposed to bringing plastic containers that takes a lot of unclean energy to produce them, my glass container can be used possibly forever. Also using a glass container eliminates the risk of having plastic litter in our waters and environment. Meal prepping is also great because it gives be another source of fuel in the middle of the day when I am on campus. So I urge everyone to start meal prepping. It's beneficial for you and for the environment. I understand that finding recipes and having the time to cook meals may be tough, but what I'm proposing can be another skill we can master that would help our lives as we become adults. Don't feel bad if you can't meal prep every single day, you are just learning! Soon it'll become a daily routine for you! -
JIMMY TRAN 2/14/2023 3:38 PMHave yall ever wondered the difference between cage-free, free-range, and pasture raised eggs at the grocery store? I found that cage-free & free range eggs are just marketing scams to convince consumers that they are buying ethically raided eggs however, the reality is that the chickens are still crammed indoors in huge chicken raising facilities. Pasture raised eggs are ethically raised eggs where chickens are raised outdoors while eating natural grass and bugs. This is a significantly healthier and more sustainable way to raise livestock, all while not compromising the environment. By eating pasture raised eggs, you are eating more nutritious eggs while sourced in a humane way that does not destroy the environment. I understand that pasture raised eggs are not the most affordable option right now for us college students but as we get older and get adult jobs, perhaps we will be able to afford it which is totally fine. We can take the time right now to at least educate ourselves. GET PASTURE RAISED EGGS-
MEGAN JUNG 3/01/2023 2:35 PMHi Jimmy, I really enjoyed reading your post as it gave me insight into something that I buy often. I never thought about the difference between eggs and always chose the cheaper option. However, after reading your post, I agree in that pasture raised eggs are the better option. Especially with regards to things I put in my body, I am not opposed to spending a couple of extra cents to protect my health and the environment. I agree, in that education is the most important thing we can do right now, because if I had not known about this, I never would have considered pasture raised eggs.

JIMMY TRAN 2/14/2023 2:48 PMThis is my 32 oz insulated water bottle. I recently got this bottle over Winter Break and it's been so so convenient. Before I would buy plastic water bottles (smh). That led to the unclean production of plastic bottles from mass producing companies. Over a couple months, I'm confident to say that my reusable water bottle has saved me over 100 plastic bottles by now. I suggest getting a reusable bottle that has a straw because it makes drinking sooo much easier. All you gotta do is pull up the straw, sip, and then put it back down as opposed to having to unscrew the entire lid, drink out the bottle, and risk spilling water on your shirt. Having a reusable bottle has also made drinking water fun! It makes me feel productive and that I'm taking care of myself. I highly urge yall to get one yourself.

NADIA RUIZ 3/16/2023 9:48 PMHey Jimmy!
I also own a reusable water bottle! It's been one of my favorite purchases, as I can put it in the water holders on my backpack, and it's also pretty durable (I've dropped it like 50x, and it's still going strong). What I also like about my hydro-flask is that it keeps my drink cold or hot, depending on the beverage's temperature when I pour it inside. :) -
Maeve Lohnes 3/08/2023 11:32 AMHi Jimmy, thanks for your post! I love the idea that a water bottle is not only helping the environment, but you to drink more water as well. I am wondering, have you seen any health effects from drinking more water? Do you feel more energetic, or walk more often, for example? -
Chloe Reese 3/06/2023 10:12 PMHi Jimmy! I am happy to hear that you are enjoying your new water bottle. I also made the switch to a reusable water bottle and have noticed that is way more convenient and encourages me to drink more water throughout the day. Using a single water bottle really makes me realize how many plastic bottles I used to purchase and waste. A reusable one definitely seems like the smarter choice for the environment but also for yourself! There is an amazing water fountain that dispenses super clean and cold water in Gold Hall I think it is on the top floor right by the stairs.

JIMMY TRAN 2/14/2023 2:39 PMI want to show people my passion of thrifting clothes. For the past 2 years, I've gotten a lot of my clothes from thrift stores. I am giving these second-hand clothes that has been donated/sold/thrown away a new purpose. I believe it helps create a sustainable lifestyle because I am not feeding into fast fashion where companies spew out clothes left and right. These fast fashion companies probably create their clothes with unclean energy. Also fast fashion means low quality clothes that probably get word down and thrown away after a short amount of time. These clothes may end up as litter in the environment or sitting in a landfill that would take years to decompose. However, by buying used clothes, I can continue to use clothes for longer periods of time which means I won't demand companies to produce more clothes. I've gotten a lot of great thrifted pieces. A good store is Plato's Closet because they usually sell quality pieces at a lower discounted price. Depop is also another great online platform to buy used clothes. In these photos It shows some nice vintage Tommy Bahama button ups and some cool Harley Davidson tank tops that I've gotten from thrift stores that I really love. You can find a lot of cool stuff when you thrift! Doing so will save you money, help your wardrobe, and help the environment! Let me know if there are any nice thrift places in the Los Angeles area please!-
Maeve Lohnes 3/08/2023 11:34 AMHi Jimmy, this is awesome! I also love thrifting, and specifically love the thrift scene in LA. They have great finds. I really like the buffalo exchange in santa monica, as well as jet rag on melrose. Melrose has a lot of different options I'm sure you'd love based off of your pics, but it tends to be a little bit on the pricier side. Hope this helps, and happy thrifting!!

JIMMY TRAN 2/14/2023 12:54 PMI'm here to tell yall about a public transportation service that I have been using since I moved into UCLA. It is called FlixBus. Flixbus is a relatively cheap public transportation bus to get to places. It is cheaper than using uber/lyft, other bus/train options, and it's cheaper than paying for the wasted gas you'd have to use if you used your personal vehicle. What I love about it is that there is a flix bus that picks up people at UCLA! It is right on Gayley which makes it super convenient for students who are trying to go home or visit other cities. I use it to go home to San Diego all the time. Imagine if more UCLA students used this flix bus, a bus that can hold at least more than 50+ people. There's a FlixBus app you can use! It seems like there are plenty times/days that a flix bus stops at UCLA. You can sleep at ease knowing you saved money, you get to sleep, and you helped our atmosphere!-
MEGAN JUNG 3/09/2023 9:55 AMHi Jimmy, thank you for sharing this! I always found public transportation daunting as I never took the time to figure out the intricate bus systems, schedules, and routes. This has deterred me from using public transportation, but I do want to change and encourage myself to utilize public transportation rather than my car to help reduce my carbon footprint. I will look into FlixBus! Especially since it operates on an app, it makes the process of finding transportation easy and acessible.
