Action Track: Healing & Renewal
More Fruits And Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 2 cups of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Transportation
Use Muscle Power
Multiple Transportation Solutions
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Land Sinks
Advocate for Forest Protection
Forest Protection
I will contact 2 congress people or representatives to advocate for public policy that protects forests and the enforcement of existing anti-logging laws, as well as the rights of local people to protect and restore the land in their communities.
Industry
Learn about Carbon Offsets
I will visit Tradewater’s website to learn more about carbon offsets, and why they are a necessary solution in combating a climate crisis.
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
Share knowledge
I shared a short film called Meet the People who get paid to Kill the Planet. It spot lights the impacts of the agriculture industry on greenhouse gas emissions in the US, and how they use a very strong lobby to avoid any regulation. My goal was to have at least two other people view the film so as to better understand the impact of our food choices, and how we can be deceived by advertising.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Understanding and supporting issues affecting women and girls
Read for 30 minutes stories on SolutionsU related to the experiences of women around the world, and made a one time donation to support the education of girls. I chose these actions as the reading I'm doing for my course on Climate Justice has clearly identified how women are disproportionately impacted by climate change on a global basis.
Health and Education
Prepare review of COP 26 presentation, Mind the Gap, a first hand account.
I attended a virtual presentation from a participant at the COP 26 conference in Glasgow. I then wrote a review and summary of the this presentation, and shared it with my fellow students in another course I am completing at Portland State University.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?
