  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next for you?

    Grayson Varn's avatar
    Grayson Varn 12/11/2020 8:44 AM
I have chosen to use many LED lightbulbs due to their energy efficiency.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Spread the Word about Energy Alternatives
What inspiration and wisdom can you gather from your family, faith, or community traditions that would help you in both communicating about and addressing our most pressing energy issues?

    Grayson Varn's avatar
    Grayson Varn 12/11/2020 8:44 AM
Especially being in scouts, I can help spread the word to many people.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Calculate the carbon footprint of my household
After you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?

    Grayson Varn's avatar
    Grayson Varn 12/11/2020 8:43 AM
I think I should take shorter showers and make sure I turn out the lights when I leave rooms
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More about Micro Wind
Micro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?

    Grayson Varn's avatar
    Grayson Varn 12/11/2020 8:29 AM
Wind turbines could likely be set up on the roofs of the taller buildings downtown. Not only that, but they could be set up on mountain tops where lots of wind comes over the mountains.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Sinks Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term "silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Grayson Varn's avatar
    Grayson Varn 12/11/2020 8:23 AM
It helps absorb the ozone from all of the cows due to the surrounding forest
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Learn about the impact of old refrigerants
Why are old refrigerant gases so harmful to our environment?

    Grayson Varn's avatar
    Grayson Varn 12/11/2020 8:20 AM
    They damage the ozone layer
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Industry Research the Climate Impact of Refrigerants
What did you learn about the climate impact of refrigerants? How do supermarkets contribute to this impact?

    Grayson Varn's avatar
    Grayson Varn 12/11/2020 8:20 AM
I learned that it takes a lot of energy to keep things refrigerated. Supermarkets I would assume contribute a large amount of energy waste due to their many coolers and freezers.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Electricity Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!

    Grayson Varn's avatar
    Grayson Varn 12/11/2020 8:17 AM
Yes, I had heard about it, but I didn't know much about it. I found it interesting that this is a genuinely effective way of getting energy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

    Grayson Varn's avatar
    Grayson Varn 12/11/2020 8:15 AM
Geothermal energy seems to be a good and reliable energy source for powering our homes and businesses. I would definitely invest in geothermal energy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Grayson Varn's avatar
    Grayson Varn 12/04/2020 6:55 AM
If we all work together and make renewable energy a norm, we have a chance of saving the planet from overheating. I think general awareness and action would help make this vision a reality.
