Hopefully this works, this is a picture of some of the recyclables I collected from my roommates and I. The picture has been having trouble uploading.

In my apartment, there is no place to recycle properly. Everything gets thrown out into a large dumpster whether it is recyclable or not. I have taken the initiative to set up a separate bag to put recyclables in so that we stop throwing them away with our regular trash. I put a bag next to our trashcan and told my roommates to put the recyclables in there instead of the normal trash. Surprisingly they listened and started to put bottles, cans, and cardboard in the recycling bag. It was a lot easier than I though. Then I went to a local recycling plant and threw it in the correct bins.

I used a small plate for breakfast and my egg sandwich filled the entire plate so I didn't cook any back to go with it. Turns out I didn't need the bacon because the sandwich filled me up anyways.

I've started getting my family in on it. My mom has been making huge meals but I've insisted on smaller plates. This has helped my family eat less and more food is saved for lunch and leftover nights. My dad isn't a huge fan but my mom does because she doesn't have to cook as much. Every now and then my dad will get to the cupboard and get a bigger plate.

Using small plates once or twice a day, especially during breakfast. It helps me cut down on the amount of food I put on my plate which helps me eat less. I've had a lot of leftovers from meals I've cooked and it helps stretch my food budget.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?

Health benefits could be related to using smaller plates. I've been using small paper plates instead of large ones while eating, and it has helped me eat less food and not be as hungry. On days where I eat mac and cheese or pizza for dinner, the small plate helps me lower the amount of unhealthy food I'm consuming. It also lets me save food which I then offer to my roommates, splitting up the unhealthy food and not consuming it all myself.
