Emily Weathers 5/01/2020 7:36 PMFor my one time challenge, I successfully donated $25 to the Native American Rights Fund (https://www.narf.org/about-us/). Since I forgot to take a screenshot of when I made my donation on their website, I sent proof of my donation through Canvas. I chose this particular one-time challenge because last semester, I took a class that showed a documentary on DAPL. I was still in high school when the DAPL riots started and wasn't really aware of what was going on. But ever since I watched it, it's resonated with me and I believe NARF plays a huge role in fighting against unfair treatment shown towards indigenous peoples.-
Gretchen Hagle 3/10/2021 1:52 PMHi Emily, I am in another Drawdown Ecochallenge group and wanted to reach out to you or someone in your group about a Tree Planting initiative your group may be interested in. It is in conjunction with Tennessee Environmental Council and Green Interchange and we are looking for partners for a massive tree giveaway event. Since planting trees is one of the actions on Drawdown, this could be a way for your group to earn points and help the community. Here is a link with more info https://www.greeninterchange.org/post/tree-day-partner. You can reach me at [email protected] if you want more details and/or if there is someone specific in your group I should talk to. Thanks so much! Gretchen -
A Mangai 5/02/2020 5:20 AMI totally agree with you! When I heard about the Trail of Tears, and the reservations, I was so upset about the unfairness.

REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Practice the 5 R'sWhat are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
Emily Weathers 5/01/2020 7:06 PMOne thing I can do to reduce my waste is to start composting (recycling) from home. This is something I’ve been wanting to try for a while, but I'm not sure how on board my parents will be. Another thing I could do to repurpose items. For example, my dad is collecting our glass Oui yogurt containers to make candles out of beeswax from his beehives. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Justice for the Whole Community Support Indigenous Peoples' Land ManagementIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
Emily Weathers 5/01/2020 7:04 PMBalance is one of the biggest keys to attaining sustainability. Sustainability's all about ensuring that our needs as a society are met, but also that our actions are not infringing on what future generations will need. It's about providing benefits while simultaneously protecting the environment. -
Emily Weathers 3/02/2020 8:39 PMMy mom's started to collect plastic tupperware we get from takeout and reusing it to store leftovers ! -
Emily Weathers 3/02/2020 8:37 PMI asked for a bike for Christmas and my dad and I finally got around to picking one up from a local bike shop - I’m planning on using it to get to work instead of driving my car since I live super close to my work place -
Emily Weathers 3/02/2020 8:36 PMI brought a breakfast burrito in a pyrex container with me to campus for lunch instead of getting something from the Student Union -
Emily Weathers 2/26/2020 12:43 PMWhile I was sitting in the Student Union today during a class break, someone tried to hand me a free bag of chips to promote their student housing apartment and I politely declined -
Emily Weathers 2/26/2020 12:42 PMMy mom has started using microfiber cloths to clean up spills around the house instead of paper towels - we wash them when they get too dirty ! -
Emily Weathers 2/26/2020 12:41 PMOn my lunch break at work, I went home and picked up some homemade chicken noodle soup and grilled cheese sandwiches that my mom had made for dinner and brought it back to my coworkers in a big Pyrex bowl. We used reusable mugs and stainless steel silverware to eat the soup ! -
Emily Weathers 2/26/2020 12:40 PMI went to the grocery store to pick up a couple of things and forgot to bring my reusable bag with me. I only got a handful of stuff, so I just walked out carrying everything instead of taking a plastic bag
