REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsWhile dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come from eating/serving smaller portions?
Allison Wildman 1/30/2020 7:58 PMI think its good to eat smaller portions because you don't get too full and it can help maintain a healthy weight. -
Allison Wildman 1/26/2020 7:10 PMLet's use this thread to discuss our nominations for which organization you'd like to donate the winning money to. I nominate KS Wild. I like the idea of supporting the local people who are fighting to keep our rivers/lands protected. https://www.kswild.org/-
Amy Stewart 1/26/2020 7:17 PMI like that idea too. And I still need to get you our $$ -
Parker Wildman 1/26/2020 7:14 PMI agree we need to help our rivers stay clean and enjoy them as much as we can:)

Allison Wildman 1/23/2020 5:39 PMHi team, support finally made a fix for me to add more daily challenges. If you have been having this issue too, try it now! Fingers crossed-
Davis Wilkins 1/28/2020 11:01 AMAllie, if we win, do you think we shoudl give all our $ locally or split it half local/half national or international? Just a thought before we start writing recommendations down...and I need to get you $ and also we cannot go on Saturday--Tate is opening for the Ashland Folk Collective, Matt going kayaking for his bday and Luke doing MARA/then going to see Tate with me. SORRY! Crap timing. -
Erin M 1/24/2020 4:34 PMI'm truly afraid now that all the Fantastic No Plastics are in action - ya'll are bringing it! -
Amy Stewart 1/23/2020 6:44 PMThank you, Allie!

Allison Wildman 1/21/2020 8:27 PMOur family made a challenge to watch An Inconvenient Truth Sequel. Man did it open our eyes to to the bureaucracy of politics, legislation, and world forum. Al Gore is steadfast in his goal and we all owe him so much gratitude for standing his ground and continuing to fight to save the planet... through much adversity and failure. It's hard not to imagine if the supreme court had judged the election results in his favor when he ran against George W Bush- we would very likely not be in the current state of environmental disaster. I highly recommend you take the time to watch the movie.-
Allison Wildman 1/23/2020 5:41 PMParker was blown away by the melting ice in the arctic (giant river running through the ice cap!). Wilson thought it was crazy how hard it seems to be to get anything done. -
Davis Wilkins 1/21/2020 9:35 PMThank you for reminding me there is a sequel. What a great thing for us to do this coming weekend Allie. What were the kids' reactions??

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Allison Wildman 1/15/2020 4:36 PMI would love to see the city of Ashland be a community powered with 100% renewable energy. In order for this to happen, I believe we will need stronger environmental policies, more incentives for homeowners and community members to participate, and better education regarding this goal. Our city council would need to be aligned and we need a mayor who is eager to make real, sustainable environmental change. Sounds like voting is part of the solution.. now that I think about it!-
Allison Wildman 1/21/2020 8:40 PMERin- that is really great to know. Thanks so much for sharing!!! Way to go Ashland for making that a priority. And yes, we should plan to be ready to hold the counsel accountable in 2028... seems like a long time from now, but not really. -
Erin M 1/18/2020 2:18 PMAllie, I got the scoop on this yesterday! Our power comes from hydroelectric and renewable energy sources - dams, wind farms, + solar. Those are low to no carbon solutions. Considering that we could be dirty coal, I'm so grateful! The City of Ashland has a contract that expires in 2028 - at which time they will see if they continue with the current path, or take a new one. Sounds like an ideal time for us to vote / makes our druthers known!

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Use Muscle PowerHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience or enjoyment differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?
Allison Wildman 1/13/2020 1:59 PMI am often zipping around town running errands for family and also work. It is actually quite isolating to be in my car, although I do enjoy listening to pod casts and NPR while I'm driving. I am often driving all over the valley for work, so my car is really my only option (unless I want to take the bus... but that would add HOURS onto my work day and I'm not willing and can't afford to "waste" that much time)
When I do walk or bike, I have more opportunity to interact with those around me and also with nature. I feel better if I have used muscle power for sure! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
Allison Wildman 1/13/2020 1:29 PMThe United States LOVES producing meat. Meat production is a big business/revenue making industry but usually does not practice conscientious farming. I know beef production especially results in some of the most pollution.
'Merica loves some steaks and burgers. I am excited to see the "meatless" burger really gaining some momentum in the US market. I might just have to go check one out at Burger King!
Since the challenge has started, I have enjoyed eating less meat. I feel like by doing so I am choosing more fruits and vegetables, which I know are very beneficial to my health. I still enjoy eating meat, especially a beautiful piece of fish, but I am trying to be extra careful about knowing where my meat is coming from. -
Allison Wildman 1/09/2020 8:19 PMHi Team! I know some of us are having issues with actions. I am unable to add daily actions, currently. I emailed support to find out what's up with this glitch. I will share what I find out with you all!-
Allison Wildman 1/21/2020 8:42 PMSadly, I have not gotten any solutions from support on this issue. They have sent my issue to the developer. We'll see if they can figure it out. -
Sky Stewart 1/09/2020 8:23 PMThank you Allison!!

Allison Wildman 1/01/2020 1:34 PMRobert found this cool blog to learn more about Goingzerowaste.com. There is so much great info here to read when you have some downtime.-
Robert Wildman 1/01/2020 8:40 PMThis is the specific blog that I read about carbon offsets. At the end it provided several credible options for where to purchase them. I have never done it. I know several of you have. Any learnings you can share would be appreciated. https://www.goingzerowaste.com/blog/where-to-buy-carbon-offsets-and-why-you-should?rq=Carbon%20offsets
