REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Learn about Carbon OffsetsWhat are some attributes of an offset that you should consider before purchasing them?
Victoria Wiseman 4/29/2021 7:38 AMAre the offset credits supporting permanent destruction of harmful materials, is there a reputable third party verifying the work being completed, is the work the organization doing through the purchase of the offsets doing more than just destroying harmful materials i.e. giving back to the community or economy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Learn about BiocharCan biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?
Victoria Wiseman 4/29/2021 7:22 AMIncreasing soil health resulting in an in increase in crop strength and production as well as producing renewable energy as a biproduct. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Learn More about Regenerative AgricultureClean air, clean water and healthy food are just three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons? How could/does regenerative agriculture positively impact you and your community?
Victoria Wiseman 4/29/2021 7:04 AMBy enabling landscapes to renew themselves, natural biodiversity can be restored. Greater crop yields with less intervention meaning more food for me/my community. -
Victoria Wiseman 4/29/2021 6:57 AMI have really enjoyed being challenged during this last month to do better for my planet including learning how what I do every day impacts our future. -
Victoria Wiseman 4/22/2021 9:24 AMThe challenge has have a much larger impact than I originally anticipated. I find myself questioning many of my daily habits and asking myself if there is a better way or better product that I could be using to accomplishing tasks at hand.-
Nicholas Hara 4/22/2021 9:02 PMIt is really helpful for me to be intentional about the choices I'm making and shaping the habits that I will (hopefully!) take with me after this challenge :)

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Practice the 5 R'sWhat are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
Victoria Wiseman 4/22/2021 9:22 AMRefuse - I should be better at refusing the single use products when I am out by making sure I bring my own reusable straw and bags.
Repair - always look to see if something can be repaired or even repurposed before disposing of it in.-
Nicholas Hara 4/22/2021 9:05 PMIn my neighborhood there is a really cool "buy nothing" facebook group where people post "gifts" - things that they no longer want or that they are going to get rid of to see if anyone in our neighborhood would want it and be able to use it. People also post "asks" where the state what they are looking for - either to receive as a gift or to borrow for a few days and then return. It's a really great way to get more use out of things and get to know people in the neighborhood. If you don't have one in your neighborhood, look into starting one!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Mulch the Base of Trees and PlantsName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Victoria Wiseman 4/22/2021 9:21 AMUse of single use products and other pollutants that are then dumped into our water ways as well as cleaners and other chemicals being washed off house, cars, and buildings and running into our sewer systems. Be more mindful of the products that I am using near and in waterways and understanding if the sewer systems are dumping into fresh water sources or are going to treatment plants as well as reduce the use of single-use products and proper disposal of those items I am using. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Zero-waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
Victoria Wiseman 4/17/2021 8:58 AMI will save the skins, tops, and stalks to make a vegetable broth for cooking pasta or a soup at a later date. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Victoria Wiseman 4/15/2021 10:55 AMBased on the list of foods and products that contain palm oil I am unknowingly supporting deforestation with many of the products that I use. As I do not believe that throwing away unused products is a positive option, as these products run out I will search for alternative products that do not have this same negative impact on the environment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Tour a Green RoofWhat did you learn on your green roof tour?
Victoria Wiseman 4/15/2021 10:23 AMIn most instances the increased cost to installing a green roof is returned back in savings over a number of years in energy costs.
