  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Learn about Carbon Offsets
What are some attributes of an offset that you should consider before purchasing them?

    Victoria Wiseman's avatar
    Victoria Wiseman 4/29/2021 7:38 AM
Are the offset credits supporting permanent destruction of harmful materials, is there a reputable third party verifying the work being completed, is the work the organization doing through the purchase of the offsets doing more than just destroying harmful materials i.e. giving back to the community or economy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Learn about Biochar
Can biochar provide additional benefits besides sequestering carbon?

    Victoria Wiseman's avatar
    Victoria Wiseman 4/29/2021 7:22 AM
Increasing soil health resulting in an in increase in crop strength and production as well as producing renewable energy as a biproduct.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Learn More about Regenerative Agriculture
Clean air, clean water and healthy food are just three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons? How could/does regenerative agriculture positively impact you and your community?

    Victoria Wiseman's avatar
    Victoria Wiseman 4/29/2021 7:04 AM
By enabling landscapes to renew themselves, natural biodiversity can be restored.  Greater crop yields with less intervention meaning more food for me/my community.

I have really enjoyed being challenged during this last month to do better for my planet including learning how what I do every day impacts our future.

  • Victoria Wiseman's avatar
    Victoria Wiseman 4/22/2021 9:24 AM
The challenge has have a much larger impact than I originally anticipated.  I find myself questioning many of my daily habits and asking myself if there is a better way or better product that I could be using to accomplishing tasks at hand.

    • Nicholas Hara's avatar

It is really helpful for me to be intentional about the choices I'm making and shaping the habits that I will (hopefully!) take with me after this challenge :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Practice the 5 R's
What are some more "R's" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?

    Victoria Wiseman's avatar
    Victoria Wiseman 4/22/2021 9:22 AM
Refuse - I should be better at refusing the single use products when I am out by making sure I bring my own reusable straw and bags.
Repair - always look to see if something can be repaired or even repurposed before disposing of it in.

      Nicholas Hara 4/22/2021 9:05 PM
In my neighborhood there is a really cool "buy nothing" facebook group where people post "gifts" - things that they no longer want or that they are going to get rid of to see if anyone in our neighborhood would want it and be able to use it. People also post "asks" where the state what they are looking for - either to receive as a gift or to borrow for a few days and then return. It's a really great way to get more use out of things and get to know people in the neighborhood. If you don't have one in your neighborhood, look into starting one!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

    Victoria Wiseman's avatar
    Victoria Wiseman 4/22/2021 9:21 AM
Use of single use products and other pollutants that are then dumped into our water ways as well as cleaners and other chemicals being washed off house, cars, and buildings and running into our sewer systems. Be more mindful of the products that I am using near and in waterways and understanding if the sewer systems are dumping into fresh water sources or are going to treatment plants as well as reduce the use of single-use products and proper disposal of those items I am using.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Zero-waste Cooking
In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

    Victoria Wiseman's avatar
    Victoria Wiseman 4/17/2021 8:58 AM
I will save the skins, tops, and stalks to make a vegetable broth for cooking pasta or a soup at a later date.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Land Sinks Forest-Friendly Foods 1
How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

    Victoria Wiseman's avatar
    Victoria Wiseman 4/15/2021 10:55 AM
Based on the list of foods and products that contain palm oil I am unknowingly supporting deforestation with many of the products that I use.  As I do not believe that throwing away unused products is a positive option, as these products run out I will search for alternative products that do not have this same negative impact on the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Building Resilience Tour a Green Roof
What did you learn on your green roof tour?

    Victoria Wiseman's avatar
    Victoria Wiseman 4/15/2021 10:23 AM
In most instances the increased cost to installing a green roof is returned back in savings over a number of years in energy costs.
