For girls in my community, one of the most pressing issues is how women are regarded and treated, whether that be at home, at work, at school, or really in any facet of life. Our society has made a lot of great strides in the right direction for women's equality and rights, but, in my opinion, there is still so much that can be done. I know that in this world there are still so many women who suffer everyday, and a lot of this suffrage stems from outdated customs of a society that are still followed today. In more rural and impoverished areas, women tend to face a lot more problems than places that are better off. But, in these places that are better off, like where we live, women still face a lot of issues everyday. Domestic abuse is one of the most prevalent things my community faces, and it goes unnoticed everyday, even to the point where some women don't even realize that it is happening. I think younger generations (like mine) are more aware and more capable of speaking up if they are not being treated fairly, and I feel like we have been taught to see when a relationship might be toxic. This ties in the sustainability and sustainable development because women play such a huge role in the well-being of our planet. Without women, there wouldn't even be life. It is crucial to teach women and young women that they have so much potential, that they are worthy and can be confident, that they don't have to rely on a male-figure to be successful. It all starts with school and teaching these sorts of things at a young age. Women are so valuable and can bring so much to our world.
