Tend A Garden
I will tend to a garden, or prepare for one, each day using sustainable gardening practices.
Electricity
Turning off all the lights in the house.
My action is to turn off all the lights in the house at night time because my roommates and I have trouble remembering to turn them off and then we end up leaving so many lights on. We even noticed a huge increased to our bills so by doing this we can improve in how much electricity we use.
Electricity

Individual actions are important, but people and organizations working together can make a real impact. I will share a carbon calculator with a friend and invite them to calculate the carbon footprint of their household.

D'Ante Zapanta 3/12/2021 9:16 AMToday I enjoyed breakfast peacefully in my room alone with no electronics or distractions and enjoyed a bowl of fruit. This has been allowing me to work on my physical and mental health and a good start of my day. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesHow does knowing the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates empower you to make better decisions?
D'Ante Zapanta 3/10/2021 9:09 AMBy knowing this you may save yourself from accidentally buying lets say milk that is nearly spoiled. By understanding this you may begin to take more time at selecting such items. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Invite a friend to calculate the carbon footprint of their householdWhat kinds of discussions did you have, or are you hoping to have with friends about climate change?
D'Ante Zapanta 3/10/2021 9:05 AMWe talked about how important the little things are to our environment in terms of climate change. We were trying to come up with ideas to improve. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Healing & Renewal Tend A GardenHave you ever had a significant experience in nature that altered your perspective or focus? If so, please describe it.
D'Ante Zapanta 3/09/2021 9:39 AMI once went hiking and in order to get to the top I hand to hike a mile up the woods and it was very difficult and at times I wanted to quit. I knew there was an amazing view at the top and I wanted to see it and once I made my way up to the view I felt accomplished and completed. The time in the nature was amazing because as others said the view was indeed amazing. -
D'Ante Zapanta 3/09/2021 9:36 AMMy girlfriend is very into nature and the outdoors and one of her big interests is gardening and having plants. Over the summer I was able to help her with her garden and see first hand how it works. I learned not only is it very beneficial for your mental health, you feel a sense of happiness once you begin seeing your work start to grow. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
D'Ante Zapanta 3/09/2021 9:34 AMI think planting trees is good for you mental health because it is a time where you can relax your mind and take a break from the day and just be at peace. It is good for your physical health because you are outside getting fresh air and putting in the work and spiritually you can feel a positive vibe on bringing a tree to life. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Calculate the carbon footprint of my householdAfter you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?
D'Ante Zapanta 3/08/2021 3:00 PMYes I learned so much, what I eat, how often I use the water sources or heat sources. It was a big eye opener to realize how all these little things can result into something so much more and I can improve my carbon footprint by improving in certain categories. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Learn about the Need for Family PlanningWhat did you learn about the need for family planning? How do the needs of different people in different places compare to each other?
D'Ante Zapanta 3/08/2021 2:55 PMI learned that the need for family planning is important because without this people will struggle and without a good structure. People all across the world have different wants and needs so because of that we need have more people be educated throughout. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our bodies, our planet, and other people?
D'Ante Zapanta 3/08/2021 2:51 PMI believe that richer countries eat more meat because I think it represents power and they want to show off their money. I think eating too much meat can negatively affect our bodies if we are having too much of it without the other nutrients needed to regenerate yourself. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Stay on the GroundWhat was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?
D'Ante Zapanta 3/08/2021 2:48 PMSo my friends and I were planning a trip to Alabama and we of course we initially thought to fly down but we decided by saving some money and not flying we can also help the environment by not burning so much fuel from using the planes.
