So many trees have died because of fires, hurricanes, and development. Planting trees in memory of loved ones is a wonderful way to renew forests but also to memorialize family. The 5 trees will be grown and planted in Florida
"Green infrastructure planning for climate adaptation needs to incorporate financing schemes that will ensure the protection of social and public housing stocks and build new permanent affordable housing for different income ranges in the vicinity of climate-resilience infrastructure." Also, really ensuring that local community folks (from all backgrounds) are included in planning and decision making.
Action Track: Building ResilienceLearn More about Regenerative Agriculture
Clean air, clean water and healthy food are just three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. What are some other reasons? How could/does regenerative agriculture positively impact you and your community?
Enjoyed a 5K walk today in Cincinnati as part of the Flying Pig events. I pretty much strolled it and really enjoyed the views. I only quickened my pace when I saw a woman with a black dog up ahead. Her dog was wearing a pink tutu. There was no way I was going to let THAT cross the finish line before I did!
Tending a garden was the only Daily Action I regret choosing as our house is fairly new and there's no "garden" yet. I did however repot my indoor plants and potted a couple that will eventually get moved outside. I'm sure when I get a chance to put in a garden, I will be tending it often. Looking forward to it. I also have not planted the three trees I wanted to plant, but the native plant sale is still going on and I will get to it!
Hope everyone has enjoyed this as much as I have. One more day I guess. 31 days in April? :)
I volunteered at the Flying Pig Expo today. I finished up there at about 4:30, ate my PB&J sandwich and thought, "Wow, how 'bout exploring my city down by the river?" So I did. I walked down to Mehring Way and found a nice, warm stone wall to sit on. I was joined by a couple of curious lizards. Maybe they smelled my container that had my PB&J in it, but they eventually got so close, and didn't seem to care that I was making gestures to indicate that I needed my space, that eventually, they ran me off. Then I wandered across to the river. It was a perfect evening, cool and a bit of a breeze. I people watched and saw a barge and some people boating. I looped back around and walked through Smale Park. There are some beautiful water features there. I made my way towards the start line of the 50 West Mile. I found a nice spot in the cool grass to await the start of the race. It felt wonderful. I laid down under a tree, watching carefully for the sparrows that were hanging out in the trees. I figured if they landed over me I might want to move over. Even though this time was spent in the city, I found some lovely natural places. I was born and raised in the 'Nati. We sometimes talk about where we might move to when we retire but my heart will always be here. Both sets of my grandparents, maternal and paternal, lived here from the time they were all very young. Both of my parents were born and raised here. There are so many places in this city that create for me a sense of place. They weave together so many memories. It was a great evening.
I checked out Ellis Lake Wetlands recently. I had no idea it existed but it's in the county I live in! Beautiful area and I saw killdeer for the first time!
It’s going well. I’ve enjoyed walking in the woods, biking/walking to the woods to the Mailbox and learning about the cork forests. Corkforests.org is an excellent website that clears up a lot of misinformation about cork. THERE IS NO SHORTAGE. IN FACT, BUY CORKED WINE! It helps the trees grow mor cork every 9 years and keeps the farmers farming and the ecosystem strong
