Heather and Corless have shared the role of Team Captain with me. I will not inundate people with too many emails. Sharon Weld is starting to make phone calls to all of you who signed up. We are creating Eco-buddy support mini-teams. If you do or don't want to participate, both ore OK.

We can focus wholly on the food and chat and reconnect with family or friends over food which is way more mentally satisfying than binging over something and not paying attention to the environment.

I always walk short distances and try to use less my motorbike to cut down on carbon footprints. It's really great to look after your planet as your home.

Ack, the challenge was just refreshed, but I"M not refreshed yet.  In a few weeks I'll have some time to browse - and once church goes back in person, I can bring the laptop to coffee hour and invite people to browse.  (screen in Wendte hall?  or in a smaller room?)

Buildings Install A Toilet Tank Bank
How can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

OK - I couldn't stand the thought of buying something, so I just filled a quart container full of water and put it in the toilet tank to displace some of the water.  And the toilet flushes fine - so I think that's a good low tech fix that pretty much everyone in my region could use.  We also don't flush when we pee, because we are in a drought.

Electricity Learn More about Wave and Tidal Energy
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?

Wave and tidal energy have a lot of problems, it seems - if you build big concrete dam-like structures, silt accumulates, and there are a lot of problems with building. I had hoped this might be the solution to the duck-shaped curve of times that solar energy is not avalable, but now I'm not so sure.  Maybe offshore wind is the solution for those times that solar is not available.

I’m trying to use less electricity from 4-9 daily.  Saves money and promotes clean energy too!

Electricity Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?

And a little more research I looked at "Swamp Coolers". They have units for single areas of about 500-700 sq. ft (my apt is 520 sq ft) for around $300-$500. Add 300watts of solar panels and a battery source with some installation and I could have solar powered heating/cooling for maybe around $2k. I can share this info with my coop-mates who need a heater replaced. A standard methane wall heater is about the same price with installation.

Last three days, been in Santa Cruz. Took two short exercise hikes: one in Nicene Markes Redood Park and another along the cliff overlooking Brighten Beach.
